Synopsis
A documentary feature by award-winning filmmaker Boaz Dvir, “To Kill a Nazi” tells the incredible story of a French businessman who sets out to uncover the truth about his father’s disappearance during the Second World War and ends up playing a crucial role in history’s most audacious hostage rescue. Michel Cojot discovers the Nazis murdered his father, Joseph Goldberg, in Auschwitz. On Joseph’s arrest paper, Michel spots Gestapo Commander Klaus Barbie’s signature. He learns Barbie works for the Bolivian government, interrogating and torturing communist rebels. Posing as a journalist, Michel flies to La Paz to interview Barbie, who boasts to have had “more power than a general.” The next day, Michel grips a pistol under a poncho and follows Barbie through the city’s winding streets. Barbie stops to light a cigarette. Michel aims his pistol. Fearing he’d stoop to Barbie’s level by firing, Michel hesitates. His decision haunts him. Soon, however, he gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to redeem himself.
